Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL, Azərbaycan Hava Yolları in Azeri) is part of the Azerbaijan Hava Yollari Closed Joint Stock Company, the biggest Azerbaijani airline and national flag carrier. Headquartered in Baku, it is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The airline’s base airport, the Baku Heydar Aliyev international airport, is located 20 km north-east of Baku. Azerbaijan Hava Yollari operates passenger flights to countries of Europe, the CIS, Middle East and Asia. In 2014, after purchasing new Boeing aircraft for long-haul flights, the airline plans to open regular flights to destinations in North America and South-East Asia. As a national flag carrier, Azerbaijan Hava Yollari holds an important place in the international aviation community and a leading position in the CIS. Azerbaijan Hava Yollari is also a regional and CIS leader for the number of new aircraft.
